Republican Debate - Part II

ree

The second Republican Primary Debate was last night. Seven candidates attended but the leading candidate (trump) was absent again. Unofficial, but very official, analysis on how each performed last night. Order of names is irrelevant. Fair warning, thoughts are my own (as always), and not meant to offend anyone. I can’t guarantee I won’t offend anyone. You might be offended. With that said, here we go:

• Ron DeSantis (Current Fl Governor) – He is really good at memorizing things and delivering pre-programmed responses. Part of being an attorney I guess. Still not convinced he isn’t an AI bot that was thrown into the race for testing to see if America would elect a robot.

• Tim Scott (Current SC US Senator) – Much more fiery this debate vs the first one. Got into some odd squabbles, especially with Nikki Haley about $50k curtains. Made some good points. Has a really inspiring life story.

• Nikki Haley (Former SC Governor and US Ambassador) – Very lively this debate. At one point, she told youngster Vivek that ‘she feels like she gets a little dumber every time he talks.’ It was pretty clear last night that Scott and Haley knew that only one of the South Carolina candidates will survive after this.

• Vivek Ramaswamy (rich Biotech dude) – He is nothing if not genuine. Has his own ideas. Some of them pretty wild and completely unrealistic. He went at the other candidates pretty hard in the first debate but tried a much softer tone in this one as he said, multiple times, that ‘all these people on stage are good people.’ The other candidates ignored that and attacked this dude relentlessly. Most seemed upset from what happened in the first debate.

• Chris Christie (Former NJ Governor) – I am not entirely convinced that Christie thinks he can actually win the nomination, but he is very entertaining. Every player has a role on a team, right? I think his role might just be to throw flaming arrows at trump on behalf of moderate Republicans. He went at the former president a lot last night and was solid all around.

• Mike Pence (Former Indiana Governor and US VP) – Boring. Moderate Republicans are going to have to rally around one candidate soon if there is to be an actual challenge to trump in the primaries. Pence ain’t the guy. He needs to drop out.

• Doug Burgum (Current North Dakota Governor and rich business guy) – I really wish Burgum would get more media attention and air time. This dude seems super smart and has intelligent, realistic answers about everything. Maybe I just think that because I share a lot of the same opinions on things as he does. You may hold different opinions as well. Which is awesome. We can debate those opinions because this is America and America is awesome. Just know that when we are all finished debating, we can all shake hands, walk away, and know that my opinions are better.
