Review - Weekend Games of the Week:
SMU (sort of my alma mater depending on what you hear when I say “SNU”) at Oklahoma (Spread: OU -15.5)
Prediction: OU wins 45-21 and covers the spread for TWO STRAIGHT WEEKS! Something that hasn’t been done since covid wrecked everything. Just kidding. Maybe. It sounds right though so I’m going to go with it. The victory will be bittersweet for me as my sorta alma mater gets torched but at least OU was the team that did it.
How it actually went: OU won 28-11 but it was not visually appealing. SMU kept it close and made it a 3 point game midway through the 4th (14-11) but then OU slammed the door shut and, most importantly, covered the spread. OU's offense was pretty boring for the most part but at least their defense has put together two straight solid performances. I don't care about the quality of the competition, it still counts as decent defensive showings.
OK-State at Arizona State (Spread: OSU -3.0)
Prediction: OSU wins 21-18. OSU uses 4 quarterbacks instead of just three for this game. OSU wins the game but loses hope for the rest of the season and start an online petition to bring Spencer Sanders back via mid-season trade with Ole Miss.
How it actually went: OSU won 27-15. If you are the type of person who likes to watch below average football and have your eyes bleed because of how bad the game is going, then this was the game for you. OSU still utilized three quarterbacks and there still does not seem to be one that stands out. This is such a stark contrast to how OSU has played for the last decade plus as their offense has usually been electric. Now? The lights at my office are more electric than OSU's offense (related note: my lights at my office currently do not work).
Nebraska at Colorado (Spread: CO -3.0)
Prediction: Why is this spread so small? I don’t get it. Is TCU actually bad? Is Nebraska actually good? Nebraska lost at Minnesota last week as they unloaded all of their bullets in their revolver into their own feet. Coach Prime’s team was lights out, offensively, at TCU last week. CO should easily cover this spread. With that said: Nebraska wins 24-21.
How it actually went: Colorado won 36-14. Nebraska looked like they were up for the game as they kept it close through most of the first half. However, the Cornhusker's QB remembered that he has a turnover quota to meet and went all in on meeting it. He succeeded and Colorado pulled away because of it. Poor Nebraska. If they had a QB who did not turn the ball over 75 times per game then they might actually be 2-0 instead of 0-2.
Texas at Alabama (Spread: ‘Bama -7.0)
Prediction: Hammer ‘Bama. Alabama wins 73-0 and Texas is still not back. When Texas’ football team tries to return to the state, Texas Governor Gregg Abbott will have instituted a travel ban on any Texan returning from ‘Bama, thus, ending the season for Texas early.
How it actually went: Texas won 34-24. Gross.
US Men's Basketball - FIBA tournament thing:
What are we doing here America? The US Men's Basketball Team competed in the FIBA World Cup tournament this summer (yes, like the soccer World Cup but for hoops) and failed to earn any type of medal. How is that possible? The US lost to Germany in the semi-finals and then lost to Canada in the 3rd place game. Granted, this US Team is not exactly America's A, B, or C team, but still, it's America and we should always win golds. I guess some credit should go out to the rest of the world. A few countries have certainly made a ton of progress in their basketball programs. Germany won gold, Serbia took home silver, and Canada earned bronze. Glass half full, Team Canada was led by OKC's own Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA) and Lu Dort so OKC has that going for them, which is nice. SGA earned All-Tournament 1st Team honors as well. Maybe next time top notch American players will choose to represent their country so we don't have to face the same type of embarrassment that I imagine England felt when they lost the Revolutionary War.

DISCLAIMER: Do not take any of this advice. It's poor and pretty much guaranteed to lose. Fun zone only for this in-depth analysis.
