About last night….
Prediction: NFL opened last night as the lowly, but now maybe average-y?, Detroit Lions played the defending champs: Kansas City Chiefs. KC was without their stud tight-end and best defensive player, however. The good news is that KC still had Pat Mahomes who has proved himself to be above average at quarterbacking. Mahomes can throw overhanded, underhanded, side-armed, flicks, flops, drops, and whatever else ‘cat in the hat’ type of throw you can think of, sure, but can he throw left handed? I really think that is what will make his game complete. He can’t drive and score lefty and he will never reach his full potential until he figures that out. Mahomes did, in fact, learn how to drive and score lefty and he scores the game winning TD with 37 seconds to go on a left handed flick to KC’s 8th string tight end who was just working at Arby’s last week. Now he has the beef and the TDs. KC wins 37-30.
How it actually went: The Chiefs lost 21-20 despite Mahomes best efforts. I watched only part of the second half but I am 98% that every time I looked up at the TV, a KC receiver was dropping a pass. I blame Mahomes. He should have made the adjustment of just throwing the ball to himself after the first 400 drops by his “receivers.” Going to call up Coach Reid and recommend a couple NGL employees to play receiver for him: Jesse Meyer and Dillon Stoner. I fully plan on acting like their agents, signing them to league minimum deals, and taking a small 90% cut of their earnings. Agent fees. They are tough.
Weekend Games of the Week:
SMU (sort of my alma mater depending on what you hear when I say “SNU”) at Oklahoma (Spread: OU -15.5)
OU wins 45-21 and covers the spread for TWO STRAIGHT WEEKS! Something that hasn’t been done since covid wrecked everything. Just kidding. Maybe. It sounds right though so I’m going to go with it. The victory will be bittersweet for me as my sorta alma mater gets torched but at least OU was the team that did it.
OK-State at Arizona State (Spread: OSU -3.0)
OSU wins 21-18. OSU uses 4 quarterbacks instead of just three for this game. OSU wins the game but loses hope for the rest of the season and start an online petition to bring Spencer Sanders back via mid-season trade with Ole Miss.
Nebraska at Colorado (Spread: CO -3.0)
Why is this spread so small? I don’t get it. Is TCU actually bad? Is Nebraska actually good? Nebraska lost at Minnesota last week as they unloaded all of their bullets in their revolver into their own feet. Coach Prime’s team was lights out, offensively, at TCU last week. CO should easily cover this spread. With that said: Nebraska wins 24-21.
Texas at Alabama (Spread: ‘Bama -7.0)
Hammer ‘Bama. Alabama wins 73-0 and Texas is still not back. When Texas’ football team tries to return to the state, Texas Governor Gregg Abbott will have instituted a travel ban on any Texan returning from ‘Bama, thus, ending the season for Texas early.
DISCLAIMER: Do not take any of this advice. It's poor and pretty much guaranteed to lose. Fun zone only for this in-depth analysis.
